Overview of Citrix snapshot management

Before you can analyze your Citrix environment in Nerdio Compass and evaluate its readiness for migration to Windows Cloud, you first need to obtain a snapshot to work with in Nerdio Compass. How you do this depends on both the type of Citrix environment you have and the access you're able to grant to your environment according to your organization's security policies:

  • For Citrix Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) environments only, you can connect your environment directly to Nerdio Compass. In exchange for a small set of read-only permissions, this direct integration streamlines the snapshot management process, simplifying how Citrix snapshots are captured and imported into Compass.

  • For both Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) and DaaS environments, you can use the Nerdio Compass Citrix Export tool to capture snapshotsthat you can then import into Nerdio Compass. This approach uses a locally run PowerShell script - which can be operated in both GUI-based an CLI modes - to provide an intuitive and straightforward means of capturing Citrix environment snapshots. You don't need to grant Nerdio Compass any access to your Citrix environment to use this method.

Note

If you're unsure whether to establish a direct connection to your environment, and/or if you have questions about the required permissions, see Nerdio Compass Permissions and Access Reference.
