You don't need to connect Nerdio Compass directly to your Citrix environment in order to view, manage, and analyze its data - the Citrix Export tool lets you capture a snapshot of your environment and import it into Compass without granting Compass any access at all.
However, if you have a Citrix DaaS environment, you have the option of connecting Compass to it directly instead. In exchange for a small set of read-only permissions, this direct integration streamlines the snapshot management process, simplifying how Citrix snapshots are captured and imported into Compass.
Note
This option is available for Citrix DaaS environments only - it doesn't apply to Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) environments.
Obtain your Citrix Customer ID (also known as your Citrix Cloud ID, or CCID). This value uniquely identifies your Citrix Cloud tenant, and you'll need it both to create the service principal and to add the connection in Compass in. For instructions on locating it, see the Citrix article How to Identify Your Citrix Cloud ID.
Create a service principal in Citrix Cloud to grant Nerdio Compass read-only access to your DaaS environment.
Important
Creating a service principal requires full-access administrator privileges in Citrix Cloud. If the Service principals option isn't available to you, contact your Citrix Cloud administrator.
-
Sign in to Citrix Cloud and, from the main menu, go to Identity and Access Management > API access > Service principals.
-
Select Create service principal.
-
On the Service principal name step, enter a name for the service principal (for example,
Compass), then select Next. -
On the Set access step, select Custom access. Expand the DaaS group and set the Read Only Administrator role's scope to All scopes (selecting this role defaults its scope to all, so there's usually nothing further to configure). Leave every other role in the list set to No scopes, then select Next.
-
On the Secret configuration step, set how long the generated secret should remain valid before it expires (in months), then select Next.
-
On the Review and confirm step, review your selections and select Save.
Once you select Save, Citrix Cloud automatically displays the ID and Secret dialog with the new service principal's client ID and client secret. Select Download to save both values, then select Close.
Warning
The client secret is only ever displayed at the moment the service principal is created - Citrix Cloud does not let you retrieve it again afterward. Store it somewhere safe before closing this dialog.
In Nerdio Compass, go to Citrix > Connections, then select Add connection.
-
In the Add Connection dialog, enter the Citrix Customer ID you obtained in Obtain your Citrix Customer ID.
-
Confirm the Region matches your Citrix Cloud tenant (this defaults to United States (US)).
-
Under Credentials Source, select Enter Manually.
-
Enter a Connection Name to identify this connection within Compass.
-
Enter the Client ID and Client Secret Key you obtained in Obtain and record the client ID and client secret for the service principal.
-
Select Next and follow the remaining steps to test and finalize the connection.
